Recent article in Radiology from Case Medical Center compared cost effectiveness of MR Imaging guided prostate biopsy compared to TRUS biopsy and results in increase quality of life years with MR Imaging biopsy. Overall, the findings suggest that there is increase in value from performing MRI imaging guided prostate biopsy compared to standard systematic biopsy. This is likely because MRI imaging guided biopsy has a yield diagnostic higher. The study assumed that if MRI is negative, there's no biopsy performed. Thus, the use of MRI can reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies.
